HONOLULU —The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team returns to Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium for its penultimate homestand of the regular season which opens with a matchup with UC San Diego on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in a match televised by Spectrum Sports. The Rainbow Wahine close the weekend by taking on defending Big West tournament champion UC Irvine on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.
Coming off their first Big West road trip of the season, the Rainbow Wahine (2-3-3, 1-1-1 Big West)enter the week tied with Long Beach State with four points in the conference standings,trailing first-place UC Riverside (six points). The 'Bows posted a 1-1 draw at Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 21 and fell to UC Riverside 1-0 three days later.

•The Rainbow Wahine lead the Big West with 15.5 shots per game (124 in eight games), and 7.00 shots on goal per game (56 total). UH's 14 goals through eight games this season is one shy of last year's total over the 15-game schedule. UH enters the week second in the Big West with 1.75 goals per match, trailing Long Beach State's average of 2.273.
• The 'Bows opened last week's road trip with a 1-1 tie with Cal State Fullerton on Thursday in Fullerton, Calif. Sophom*ore Zoe Park scored her first career goal and UH earned a result against the Titans for only the second time since joining the Big West in 2012. The Wahine were shut out for the first time this season in a 1-0 loss at UC Riverside on Sunday.
• Three new names popped into the scoring column for the Rainbow Wahine over the first two weeks of Big West play. Freshman Izzy Ayala and senior Nohara Takayama scored their first career goals in a 2-1 win over CSUN on Sept. 14. Sophom*ore defender Zoe Park recorded her first goal with eight seconds left in the first half at Cal State Fullerton.In all, seven UH players have scored at least one goal this season.
• Sophom*ore forward Amber Gilbert continues to lead the team with four goals, followed by juniors Mia Foster with three and Brynn Mitchell with two.
• UC San Diego owns a 3-0 lead in the series with UH. The 'Bows and Tritons met for the first time as Big West members last season, with UCSD earning a 3-1 win in La Jolla, Calif. UH's Fabiola Zamora scored her first collegiate goal in the match. … UCSD tied CSU Bakersfield (1-1) in its Big West opener on Sept. 14.
• UC Irvine leads the series with UH 10-2-1. The 'Bows and Anteaters met in last season's regular-season finale for the final spot in the Big West tournament. UH took the lead on a goal by Eliza Ammendolia before UCI pulled away in a 4-1 win. The Anteaters went on to win the conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Round of 16, knocking off USC and Brown before falling to Alabama. … UCI tied Long Beach State (1-1) and UC Santa Barbara (2-2) to open BWC play. Sophom*ore forward Emilie Castagna was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
