Great for parties. Sliders are perfect for parties and game day celebrations because they’re easy to hold and eat. Especially these baked ham and cheese sliders! The recipe can easily be double or tripled for a crowd.

What You’ll Need

Only a few simple ingredients are required for this easy recipe! As always, you can find the full printable recipe with complete instructions in the recipe card at the end of this post. Let’s take a look at what you’ll need:

  • Hawaiian sweet rolls– this is a type of dinner roll that can be found in the bread aisle of most grocery stores. They have a bit of added sweetness to them that works really well with this recipe. You can use regular dinner rolls if you prefer.
  • unsalted butter –
  • honey
  • thinly sliced deli ham – any type of thinly sliced ham will work here. Note that if you use any flavored ham it will change the flavor of the recipe.I love to use either a honey ham or black forest ham for this recipe.
  • cheese – Swiss cheese is the classic choice but white cheddar is also delicious. Both of these cheeses pair very well with ham so feel free to use whichever cheese you preferor any other cheese of your liking.
  • seasonings – you can use an Everything Bagel Seasoning blend or my list of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried onion flakes, dried garlic flakes and salt.
  • Dijon mustard – since there isn’t any mustard on the inside of the sliders, this Dijon mustard is the perfect addition to the topping.
  • Worcestershire sauce – a rich and savory addition to the topping.

Everything Bagel Seasoning Blend:

Make a bigger batch of Everything Bagel Seasoning with this simple recipe:

  • 4 teaspoons poppy seeds
  • 4 teaspoons white sesame seeds
  • 3 teaspoons dried onion flakes
  • 3 teaspoons dried garlic flakes
  • 2 teaspoons coarse sea salt

FAQs

Why are my sliders soggy? ›

Too much butter will make your sliders soggy. Getting the correct volume of butter to soak into the rolls gives them the butter effect without making them soggy. Also make sure to brown without the aluminum so some of the liquid has the chance to evaporate out.

Can you make ham and cheese sliders without poppy seeds? ›

I prefer to use an unsweetened ham from the deli. Since the glaze brings the sweetness factor, no need for the honey ham. I've found that I can leave the poppy seeds out and they taste just as delicious. I also sometimes omit the mustard if these are being made for kids.

How do you keep the bottom of sliders from getting soggy? ›

How do I keep my sliders from getting soggy? To ensure these mini sandwiches don't get soggy, pop the split rolls under the broiler for a few minutes to toast them before building the sliders. This helps keep the bread sturdy so the sandwiches don't fall apart.

How do you keep sliders from getting soggy overnight? ›

Just make sure to wrap them tightly in foil or store them in an airtight container to maintain freshness. You don't want to make them more than 24 hours in advance as the quality will go downhill quickly and you risk getting sad, soggy sliders instead of toasty, melty goodness.

Can I just throw poppy seeds on the ground? ›

Sprinkle the seeds directly on the ground. This can even be done with snow on the ground, just sprinkle seeds on top of the snow, and as the snow melts down, the seeds will reach the soil. Because poppy seeds are so small, you can mix the seeds with some sand to help you distribute the seeds evenly.

What to serve with ham and cheese sliders? ›

Potato chips, pickles, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, pretzels, a side garden salad, Doritos, soup, just the name a few of my favorites. Enjoy! Pickles. Ham is sweet, cheese is greasy.

Can I skip poppy seeds in a recipe? ›

We should never skip any ingredient, instead we should replace it with the ingredients that are easily available. That's why measurement also matters a lot. You can use melon seeds instead of poppy seeds. However, there will be a difference in the flavour compared to the actual recipe.

Are sliders meant to be loose? ›

How are Sliders Meant to Fit? The strap or straps across the toes fit on the lower half of the foot to hold the slider on your foot, making sure you only slide them off when you want it. Sliders shouldn't be too loose.

How do you keep sliders warm on a buffet? ›

Chafing dish.

Chafing dishes are ideal for a buffet-style service. They provide consistent warmth and are durable for entertaining. Tip: Fill the chafing dish with hot water to help maintain the temperature of the food. Tip: Use denatured alcohol as a fuel source to keep the chafing dish hot during the party.

How do you keep sliders warm for a crowd? ›

If you're making the sliders for a party and want to keep the cheeseburgers warm, once they're cooked, place them in a slow cooker on warm. I use this Casserole Crock Pot. Keep the buns and toppings on the side.

How do you keep sliders warm for a potluck? ›

Don't stress, there are a few options you can use when keeping appetizers warm. Your first option is to place your baked sliders straight into an aluminum tray and cover tightly with foil. The second option is, as soon as the sliders come out of the oven, stack them one by one into a crockpot set to warm.
