2024 Volleyball Schedule Announced - Arizona State University Athletics (2024)

TEMPE – The 2024 Sun Devil Volleyball schedule has been announced, including the first Big 12 slate for Arizona State. ASU will have 12 home matches throughout the season andconference play will begin on September 25 at TCU.

"We are really excited about our 2024 schedule," second-year head coach JJ Van Niel said. "Our non-conference slate is challenging, and we feel it will prepare us well for our inaugural Big 12 season. The Big 12 race should be an exciting one, and we can't wait for the Sun Devil community to experience it with us!"

The inaugural Big 12 season for ASU includes nine home matches in conference, 12 total with a tournament at home to wrap up non-conference play. The Sun Devils will face each big 12 team in 2024 at least once. On the schedule, there are eight teams that made the 2023 NCAA Tournament, six of which are in the Big 12. The two non-conference tournament teams are UC Santa Barbara and national runner-up Nebraska.

The season will begin with three-straight weekends on the road for non-conference play. The season will open with a tournament at Lipscomb from August 30 to September 1 where ASU will play the host team as well as Cal Baptist and Butler. The second weekend will be at San Diego, playing UC Santa Barbara, San Diego and St. Johns. Ending the road trip, Arizona State will head to Nebraska for a tournament including the host team Huskers, Long Beach State and Wichita State.

Arizona State will host a tournament from September 19-21 to close out non-conference play. ASU will bring in Prairie View A&M for the home opener on the 19th, Memphis on the 20th and Montana State on the 21st.

To begin Big 12 play, Arizona State will be on the road, heading to TCU on September 25 and then staying in Texas to play at Baylor on September 27. Starting October, the Sun Devils will come back home for three-straight in Tempe, first hosting familiar foe Utah on October 2 before bringing in BYU on October 4. The following weekend will be the first rivalry match with Arizona, hosting the Wildcats on October 19 before going back on the road to Texas Tech on October 12.

Two more home games for the Sun Devils will be on October 16 and 18 against Houston and Colorado, respectively. The next week will only have one game for ASU, the second rivalry matchup against Arizona on October 24 down in Tucson. That will be followed by a trip to the state of Utah the next weekend, playing at BYU on October 31 and at Utah on November 2.

Kansas and Kansas State will come to Tempe on November 6 and 8, respectively. The week after will be on the road November 14 at West Virginia and November 16 at Cincinnati. The last two-match weekend will be split home and away, starting at home against Iowa State on November 21 before traveling to Colorado on November 23.

The regular season and home finale will be on November 29 against UCF.

The Sun Devils are coming off of one of the best seasons in program history. In a historic 2023 season, Arizona State went 28-7 under first-year head coach JJ Van Niel. The Sun Devils reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015, winning two matches for the first time in program history. Arizona State had its second-highest win total in a season in program history with 28, which was the most wins in a season this century. The win percentage of .800 was the best the program has had. To start the season, the Sun Devils went 14-0 (undefeated in non-conference and two conference wins). The team finished the year at No. 16 in the rankings, the first time finishing a season ranked since 2014 and the highest final ranking since 1995. In conference play, the Sun Devils finished in a tie for third with a 14-6 record, the most conference wins in a single season in program history.

Despite graduating three key starters, including two All-Americans, Arizona State returns many starters and role players, as well as transfers that could immediately contribute. All-American middle blocker Claire Jeter will be returning for a fifth year, as well as all-district libero Mary Shroll in her sixth season. Outside hitter Geli Cyr is primed for a strong senior season after earning All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention last year. Additionally, grad transfer setter Argentina Ung has joined the squad, coming from Washington State where she was an All-American last season.
